Paid Railo Extension Amazon S3 now free; moves to the core.

May 27, 2010 · By webrat · 7 Comments

Railo Team has a mantra that if functionality moves to the "core" language of CFML, then what was once a paid plugin / extension would then become free. With that, this is the announcement that the Railo Amazon S3 plugin is currently available as a free extension now and it will be part of the core in one of the next patch bleeding edge releases.

Update: Gert just linked on twitter an old tutorial on how to use the Amazon S3 plugin in Railo.

That's great news! Hopefully Adobe will copy you guys, because S3 is such a huge asset, but kind of cumbersome, and CFML is all about making straightforward-but-cumbersome stuff into straightforward-and-easy stuff.

good stuff Railo! BTW when are you guys going to push Railo more to Co. and Unis (i reckon Railo will be a good candidate for uni projects on, fast, easy to pick up and free!)

Oops i forgot to elaborate... I meant Down Under in Australia, "selling" Railo to Co. and Unis...

@Chong: Railo does make an appearance at WebDU? Is there something more you were looking for?

@Todd: Chong means Down Under (as a generic term for Australia) not just WebDU.

@Chong: We are looking into this and there are a few things in the works.

@Barney: Well they already have, with HQL and the Amazon S3 integration. Which makes me kinf of proud of Micha and the team. But if you meant copying us means ACF making it available for free then ehm... well...
I hope a lot that the other virtual file systems will follow in the same way and notation as we have implemented them.
@chong: just talked to someone the other day about sponsoring cf.objective() ANZ this year, which we will very probably do. We are considering different options for coming DU this year and help grow the community. You will hear some more during this year about that from us... If you specificly have any requirements 'n tips for us or need help from us just contact me, you know where to find me.
Thanks a lot for all the support...

@Gert: I think Barney means he hopes they copied the Railo implementation.
